Petroleum Geochemistry of the Central and Eastern Onshore Niger Delta Basin: Oil-Oil Correlation Using Biomarkers and Multi-Variate Statistics

Petroleum geochemistry of oils in several depobelts the world has been well documented based on biomarkers. However, there is paucity data regarding use multi-variate statistics oil-oil correlation study, particularly Sub-Saharan African region. The purpose study was to gain an insight into geochemical differences and identify their cause(s) through application bulk properties, biomarker indices statistics. Correlation from eight wellheads three stratigraphic units within Central Eastern onshore Niger Delta Basin fields (AG AS) were undertaken by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector. Utilization cross plot parameters somewhat separated mature AG1-4, AS3 AS4 deposited oxic/suboxicshaly environment AS2 oil anoxic fluvio deltaic environment. In-reservoir alteration migration major factors responsible for observed slight variability studied oils. Nevertheless, principal component analysis indicated that principally generated similar organic matter sources. implication here variations not significant, a conclusion corroborated Pearson model data.
